Alan Roulstone lived on several occasions in Cornwall, and turned out a large number of oil-paintings for sale to holiday makers. Off-season, however, he continued to draw pubs, and his 1959 view of the The Kings Head at Five Lanes is representative of his commercial output in the duchy. The use made of trees and out buildings is yet another typical Roulstone Touch.

Another 1959 drawing is a fine interior view of the well-known Silver Plough at Pitton, Wiltshire. While not unique among Roulstone's surviving OEUVRE, the introduction of a scroll for the pub's name and location is certainly unusual. Very rightly, the drawing allocates considerable space to a most interesting bar-counter.

A second Cornish drawing, this one dating from 1960, is of the Bucket of Blood at Phillack, formerly known as the New Inn. The incorporation of a nearby church is a typical Roulstone ploy for adding interest to his composition; though as often happened the perspective may have had to be twisted slightly to facilitate its inclusion.
