In 1971 Roulstone published what is unquestionably his most attractive regional guidebook, Travellers Rest: Wales and Border Counties - also his best-seller. One realon for its excellence was that the houses featured were all by and large excellent, and attractive; none more so than the Black Swann Inn at Much Dewchurch, Hereford & Worcs, drawn (for the second time) in 1964.

The Sondes Arms at Rockingham, Northamptonshire was drawn (for the second time) in 1966. Almost a village-scape, with the famous castle prominent in the background, it again shows Roulstone at his most expansive - and most patient. As time passed, indeed, patience was to emerge as one of his enduring professional assets.

He was pre-eminently a drawer of buildings, as opposed to pubs specifically (he drew many churches). But country pubs, as against those in towns (excepting London), were his speciality, and few did he render so well as the winning Black Bull at Market Overton, Leicestershire, drawn in 1967. As so often, he rose to the occasion with éclat.
