He did likewise for the Bewicke Arms at Hallaton, also in Leicestershire, which he drew twice in 1970 for different landlords. Again one notes his habit of thrusting his ostensible subject back into the middle distance in order to make a feature in its own right of something in the foreground; a trait which by this date had become almost automatic - and effective.

An excellent example of this is to be found in his 1971 view of the Salusbury Arms at Tremeirchion, Clwyd. It may be hazarded, nevertheless, that the undue prominence given to an old street-lamp constitutes an instance of artistic licence; a ploy more usually applied to especially attractive inn-signs.

Roulstone's interior 1972 view of the Cock Inn at Sibson, Warwickshire is not only excellent drawing, but offers a perfect example some of the changes to have overtaken the English pub during the 1960s, which the artist recorded as they were taking place. Here again the old has been meticulously retained, but there is much too that is new, and this was highly typical.
